What to Watch Wednesday: Two former Carolina Panthers compete in ‘The Amazing Race’

2020 Billboard Music Awards (8 p.m., NBC) - Billboard honors the artists, albums and songs that dominated the charts over the past year. We’ll get celebrity presenters and music performances.

The Amazing Race (9 p.m., CBS) - The show celebrates traveling one million miles around the world with its 32nd race, starting from Los Angeles. Among the contestants this season are two former NFL players who both played for the Carolina Panthers. DeAngelo Williams lives in Charlotte, and after being drafted by the Panthers, played there for nine years. His “Race” buddy is Gary Barnidge, who lives in Florida. Barnidge was drafted by the Panthers and played there for four years. There are also two sisters, Kaylynn and Haley Williams, who are from Bluffton, South Carolina (near Hilton Head). Filming for this season wrapped two years ago, so you won’t see anyone wearing masks or taking precautions because of COVID-19. Shooting for Season 3 was stopped earlier this year, because of the virus, and it’s not clear exactly when it will resume.

Nature’s Fear Factor (9 p.m., PBS / UNC-TV) - This new film from NOVA, narrated by Michael C. Hall, examines the science behind fear and the power it has on our ecosystems. We get an exclusive look into the reintroduction of African wild dogs into Gorongosa National Park, one of the most aggressive wildlife recovery projects on record, revealing that fear plays a much larger role in the Animal Kingdom than what was once understood.

The Con (10 p.m., ABC) - Whoopi Goldberg narrates this new ABC News series about some of the most stunning con jobs of all time. The series premiere is a love story gone bad for TV producer Bernita Alexander and her world renowned surgeon fiance, Paolo Macchiarini. Other episodes will examine the college admissions scandal, a con artist who claimed to be an Irish heiress, and Fyre Festival. The series not only shows how victims were fooled, but also the emotional and financial cost of their false trust.

The Age of Nature (10 p.m., PBS / UNC-TV) - This three-part documentary series explores how an increased awareness of the natural world is leading to a new chapter in the story of both humanity and the planet. With stunning photography, the series focuses on the resiliency of Earth’s ecosystems through stories of success, as scientists, citizens and governments act to fix past mistakes and restore the environment. Narrated by Uma Thurman. New episodes air Oct. 21 and Oct. 28.
