What to Watch Tuesday: A Raleigh-filmed romantic comedy hits streaming sites
A Night in the Academy Museum (10 p.m., ABC) - Tom Hanks and Laura Dern host this insider’s look at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures — complete with amazing history, exhibitions and insight into the art of filmmaking. The Cleveland Kidnappings (Discovery+) - This new true-crime special interviews Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus, who were kidnapped, along with Amanda Berry, by Cleveland man Ariel Castro in the early 2000s, and kept inside a house of horrors with no escape.
Oh Crappy Day (Apple TV, YouTube, Amazon Prime) - Now available for streaming: a new romantic comedy by Raleigh filmmakers Steve Neilson and Jon Lance Bacon about what it’s like to date when you have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The movie follows Jared, an aspiring filmmaker with a severe case of OCD, who tries a dating website thinking it might give him more control “over the process.” His dates keep getting derailed by his compulsion to wash his hands, until he meets a young librarian with issues of her own. The film was shot entirely using North Carolina locations, local actors and production crews. The leads are Jordan Estes, a North Carolina native, and Jess Barbour, a Raleigh actress who graduated from Elon. You may even see a few Raleigh spots in the movie (the Rose Garden and Hayes Barton Cafe are both shown in the trailer). “Oh Crappy Day” won Best Feature Film at the Raleigh Art & Film Festival at NCSU earlier this month.
