What to Watch Wednesday: Raleigh’s Holderness duo premieres on ‘Amazing Race’

The Amazing Race (8 p.m., CBS) - Penn and Kim Holderness, of the Raleigh family behind viral videos like “Christmas Jammies,” begin their big journey tonight: a race around the world with 10 other couples for a $1 million prize. (This season’s contestants also include Connie and Sam Greiner, a married couple from Charlotte.)

Filming for Season 33 of the award-winning reality competition series actually began in February 2020 and had to pause — for a year and a half — because of the pandemic. In tonight’s two-hour premiere, the first leg of the race starts in competitors’ homes, where they get the “go!” signal via video from host Phil Keoghan and then rush to the nearest airport for a flight to London. Penn and Kim hug their children goodbye on the front lawn and run to a waiting cab as their son, Penn Charles, yells, “Say hi to Phil for me!”

The teams get their first clue in London’s Trafalgar Square and later head to Scotland. That’s when the pandemic brings action to a screeching halt. Tonight’s premiere episode starts at 8 p.m. on CBS, but typically, the show will air at 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and last for only one hour. One couple is eliminated at the end of each episode.
