What to Watch Saturday: Lifetime’s ‘Suitcase Killer’ movie based on real NJ crime
Here’s a look at what’s on TV tonight.
Suitcase Killer: The Melanie McGuire Story (8 p.m., Lifetime)
This new Lifetime movie is based on a shocking true story: Melanie McGuire (Candice King) was a fertility nurse and mother of two in Woodbridge, New Jersey, married to ex-Navy husband William “Bill” McGuire (Michael Roark). Then Melanie fell for Bradley Miller (Jackson Hurst), a doctor at her clinic, and became entangled in a steamy love affair. In 2004, Melanie did the unthinkable: she drugged and murdered her husband, then dismembered him and put his body parts into three suitcases, throwing them into Chesapeake Bay.
The suitcases were found on the shores of Virginia Beach and an investigation was launched leading to Melanie as the prime suspect. Led by the efforts of assistant attorney general Patti Prezioso (Wendie Malick), authorities brought Melanie to justice in 2007. She continues to maintain her innocence.
According to NJ.com, an appeals court upheld Melanie McGuire’s conviction and life sentence in 2011, and in 2014, she was in court again to argue for a review of evidence in the case. Her request was denied. Another appeal was denied in 2017.
Moriah’s Lighthouse (8 p.m., Hallmark)
In this new movie, Moriah, a woodworking artisan in a French seaside town dreams of restoring a local lighthouse, but Ben, an American architect, may derail her plans. This stars Rachel Lefevre and Luke Macfarlane.
