Charlamagne Tha God Criticizes Taylor Swift's Knicks Fandom After Game 4
The Breakfast Club host Charlamagne Tha God weighed in after Taylor Swift's appearance at Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals stirred controversy.
"Why is Taylor Swift a New York Knicks fan?" Charlamagne, 47, asked on the morning show on Thursday, June 11. "How did this happen?"
Swift, 36, sat courtside with friends Alana and Este Haim for Game 4 between the Knicks and San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, June 10, with all three decked out in custom Knicks T-shirts.
"You're from Reading, Pennsylvania," The Breakfast Club cohost DJ Envy said, referencing the pop star's hometown. "Stay down there with the [Philadelphia] 76ers."
The morning show crew referenced a viral hot mic moment involving ESPN personality and Knicks radio host Monica McNutt, in which she also criticized Swift's appearance at the game.
"She's not a Knicks fan. Get out of here, girl," McNutt, 36, was heard saying.
While some pushed back on McNutt's statement - referencing the fact that Swift has supported the Knicks for years - the hosts of The Breakfast Club were firmly in McNutt's corner after playing the leaked audio.
"That's what I'm talking about! Get the eff out of here, girl!" Charlamagne said.
Swift was an enthusiastic fan throughout the game, celebrating with actress Mariska Hargitay and busting some dance moves while the Knicks completed the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history to win 107-106.
"I know hula hoops hate her," Charlamagne joked about her dancing. "I know hula hoops are like, ‘Every time you put us on, we gon' fall.'"
However, DJ Envy, 48, hesitated to completely bash Swift showing up at Game 4, given how things turned out for the Knicks.
"We don't want to go too hard on her because the Knicks won," he said. "Whatever it takes for the Knicks to win, whoever is in that building."
Swift showing up to Madison Square Garden came just weeks before she and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce are rumored to be getting married at the historic arena.
The Breakfast Club cohost Jess Hilarious theorized that the pop star was simply getting a lay of the land before her big day.
"She was in there mapping it out," Hilarious, 34, said. "She was like, ‘OK, I'm gonna have the bridesmaids over here. I'm going to have the groomsmen over here.'"
The 2026 NBA Finals head back to San Antonio for Game 5 on Saturday, June 13, when the Knicks will have a chance to win their first NBA championship since 1973.
