England's Harry Kane Details ‘Surreal' Time With Donald Trump Before World Cup
Before he helped lead England to the semifinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Harry Kane hit the links for a memorable day with President Donald Trump.
Kane, 32, recently explained how he came to play a round of golf stateside with Trump, 80, during a break in his soccer schedule.
"I played alright to be honest," Kane told reporters before England's World Cup quarterfinal win over Norway. "It was about 18 months ago. [Trump] invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. When the president invites you somewhere, it was a pretty surreal experience to meet him and obviously play golf with him."
Kane, who is tied with teammate Jude Bellingham for the World Cup team lead in goals with six, complimented Trump's golf game.
"His golf is pretty good to be honest with you," Kane said. "I hope I can play as well as him when I am his age, that is for sure."
Kane's recollection of his time with Trump came on the heels of the president praising the soccer star on social media.
"Harry Kane of England is a GREAT player!!!" Trump wrote via Truth Social on July 6 following England's win over Mexico.
Kane is hoping to guide England to its second World Cup victory - the country's first since 1966. His efforts, however, have not come without some controversy.
Following the team's win over Norway, midfielder Bellingham, 23, seemingly threw England coach Thomas Tuchel under the bus after he criticized his team's play in the victory.
Bellingham told reporters that Tuchel, 52, "doesn't know what it's like to play in those kind of conditions."
Amid rumors of a team rift, Kane did his best to clear the air.
"When you are playing a game like that and to be asked a question five minutes after the final whistle, and he didn't really know what the manager has said, what do you want Jude to say?" Kane told BBC Sport. "We had just been through a battle. It was really tough out there. It is easy to try and create this division - it seems like an English mentality, an English thing to do at these major tournaments."
Kane added, "But it is the complete opposite. The group is where we are because of our togetherness - not just the players, the coach and the staff. Things sometimes get made out to be more than they are."
England plays Argentina in the 2026 World Cup semifinals on Wednesday, July 15, with the winner advancing to play Spain in the final on Sunday, July 19.
