The Carolina Hurricanes on Monday made qualifying offers to restricted free agents Trevor van Riemsdyk, Lucas Wallmark, Valentin Zykov and Greg McKegg.

The Hurricanes did not tender a qualifying offer to forward Phil Di Giuseppe by the NHL's 5 p.m. deadline but later Monday signed him to a one-year, $750,000 deal.

Forward Joakim Nordstrom, who played 75 games for the Canes last season, was among those not receiving a qualifying offer. He will become an unrestricted free agent on Sunday, July 1.

Di Giuseppe, 24, a former second-round draft pick, played a career-high 49 games for the Canes last season.

“Phil is a versatile player who has shown he can contribute in a number of ways on the NHL level,” general manager Don Waddell said in a statement.

Goalie Cam Ward will become an unrestricted free agent if unsigned before Sunday. Other pending UFAs include forwards Derek Ryan and Lee Stempniak.
