Death Row inmate dies of natural causes at Central Prison
A man on North Carolina’s Death Row died Monday of natural causes at Central Prison in Raleigh, state officials said.
Rowland Andrew Hedgepeth, 67, was convicted in Halifax County in November 1987 of murdering Richard Casey earlier in the year and assaulting Hedgepeth’s estranged wife, Beverly, in an attempt to kill her.
Hedgepeth lived in Roanoke Rapids at the time, according to court records.
Hedgepeth was in the healthcare section of the prison when he died, according to a statement from the state Department of Public Safety.
The statement did not disclose what illness led to Hedgepeth’s death.
