He saved a girl from abduction. Now this NC man will get free Biscuitville for a year
A man who stopped an attempted kidnapping at a Biscuitville in North Carolina was rewarded for his “measured approach” that helped police nab the suspect an hour later, media outlets report.
He’s getting free Biscuitville for a year.
Cody Byrd — a 24-year-old graduate student at N.C. A&T University — was given the “Good Citizen Award” on Tuesday at the same Biscuitville where Timothy Jon Fry, 55, tried to grab a girl as she came out of the bathroom, the Winston-Salem Journal reported. The award includes meals on the house.
“I just really want Cody to be sure that he realizes how appreciative we are as a brand and that we certainly do recognize what he did and it’s no small thing,” said Biscuitville’s Vice President of Marketing Kristie Mitchell, according to WGHP. “And so, it was worth the time to stop just to say thank you to him and to be extremely grateful for Cody.”
Byrd was at a Biscuitville in Greensboro on Dec. 27 at the same time as Heather Owen and her 8-year-old daughter, the News & Observer reported.
Owen told the Greensboro News & Record she noticed a man staring at her daughter as they ate.
“He looked angryish,” she said, according to the newspaper.
Byrd noticed, too.
The man followed when the girl went to the bathroom and waited outside, the Greensboro News & Record reported, prompting Byrd to get up.
He went to the men’s room and caught the man trying to grab the girl as she came out. Byrd then photographed the attempted kidnapper on his way out the door, the truck he got into and the license plate, according to WFMY.
Police caught the man shortly thereafter and identified him as Fry. Citing court documents, WFMY reported that Fry “said he was sexually attracted to the child.”
