NCHSAA State Finals Roundup: North Lincoln sweeps 3A cross-country titles
North Lincoln’s boys and girls cross-country teams won NCHSAA 3A state championships Saturday in Kernersville.
The girls had 59 points, well ahead of Carrboro (150) and West Henderson (153). Croatan’s Navaya Zales won the individual championship in 18:12.97. North Lincoln had four runners in the top 20: No. 5 Bella Wood, No. 11 Lori Glavan, No. 12 Bella Green and No. 16 Kelbi Pierce.
Stuart Cramer’s Zachary Willer won the boys race, ahead of teammate Nicholas Willer. Zachary finished in 15:42.61. Nicholas was 15:45.32. South Central’s Elliott Kleckner was third (15:48.28).
North Lincoln’s Stephen Fernetti was fourth and teammates Connor Bagwell, Alex Bradley, Mack Viverette and Mirko Glavan were all top 40.
North Lincoln finished with 106 points. Croatan (125) was second and Orange (151) third.
4A Cross-Country
▪ Mount Tabor’s Will Soule won the boys’ race in 15:31.62, ahead of two Union County stars -- Porter Ridge’s Jacob Laney (1;34.33) and Marvin Ridge’s Ethan Synder (15:46.01). Ardrey Kell’s Patrick Gibbons (15:46.40) was fourth. Mount Tabor won the team title, ahead of Weddington and Green Hope.
▪ Apex’s Sarah Michell won the girls title in a time of 17:26.96, ahead of Cardinal Gibbons’ Hannah Rae Shaffer (17:32.55) and Chapel Hill’s Abby Weber (17:54.55). Cuthbertson won the team title with 50 points, well ahead of Weddington (98) and Cardinal Gibbons (101).
2A Cross-Country
Brevard’s Knox Witherspoon won the title in 16:17.70. Brevard won the team title.
On the girls side, Brevard’s Lucy Murray won the title in 19:26.50. N.C. School of Science and Math won the team title.
1A Cross-Country
▪ Swain County’s girls won the team title over Thomas Jefferson and Avery County. Gray Stone Day was fourth. Swain County freshman Arizona Blankenship won the individual chapionship in a time of 19:06.19, ahead of Riverside’s Briley Bickerstaff (19:14.81) and Highland Tech’s Lauren Tolbert (19:50.63)
▪ Corvian’s Jacob Fiorillo won the boys race in 16:34.24, just ahead of Thomas Jefferson’s Carson Gilliam (16:36.59). Bishop McGuinness’ CJ Pacholke was third (16:52.59). Bishop McGuinness won the team title, ahead of South stanly and Christ the King.
Tennis: Marvin Ridge wins 4A title
Led by championship MVP Reese Sager, Marvin Ridge won the N.C. 4A dual team championship Saturday, beating East Chapel Hill 5-0.
Sager, playing No. 1 singles won her match 6-0 6-4.
