Southern Living says this fast-casual market is best new restaurant in North Carolina
North Carolina has welcomed a long list of new restaurants in the last year, especially in the Queen City.
With a buzzing culinary scene like Charlotte’s, you’ve probably lost count of all the new restaurants that have opened in the city.
Already this year, almost 90 new spots have opened or announced plans to open around the area. But one trendy place to eat has been named the best new restaurant in North Carolina.
As part of its annual South’s Best Awards, Southern Living revealed the best new eateries in every state across the region.
Of all the delicious new restaurants calling North Carolina home, Salted Melon Market & Eatery in Charlotte received the title for the top new spot.
The fast-casual restaurant, located in South End, opened back in 2022. Run by the team behind Reid’s Fine Foods, Salted Melon Market is part market and part restaurant for those that want to grab a bite to go or dine in for a meal. Plus, there’s also a bar with creative cocktails, beer and wine.
“Salted Melon is a one-stop-shop for Charlotte food lovers. This market-restaurant-hybrid not only serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and fully-prepped meals to go, it also has a gourmet grocery store filled with products you won’t find at your local supermarket,” Southern Living’s report says.
“Menu items lean toward the healthy side, with lots of vegetables and whole grains, like the Healthy Farmer, a quinoa bowl with spinach, a six-minute egg, bruleed goat cheese, red bell peppers, avocado, and pear vinaigrette.”
The restaurant also hosts live music nights, with performances from local artists every week.
