Carolina Mudcats lose 6-4 to Wilmington Blue Rocks
Dansby Swanson was 2-for-4 with two doubles, and Jordan Edgerton had a RBI triple, but the Blue Rocks scored a season high six runs and 12 hits while earning their first win of the season 6-4 against the Mudcats on Monday night at Frawley Stadium.
The Mudcats (2-3) gave starter Zach Quintana a run to work with in the first, but the Blue Rocks (1-3) answered back with two runs off Quintana to take the early 2-1 lead. Carolina went on to tie it at 2 all in the top of the fifth, but once again Wilmington immediately answered back.
The Blue Rocks scored three times in the bottom of the fifth and added one more in the sixth. They also held a late rally in the eighth to two runs and clinched the 6-4 win.
Quintana (L, 0-1) allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings and took the loss. He finished his first start of the season with a strikeout and 60 pitches thrown (42 strikes).
Wilmington starter Ashton Goudeau earned the win after allowing two runs and four hits over five innings pitched. Goudeau (W, 1-0) struck out seven and did not walk a batter while earning his first win of the year.
