Carolina Mudcats beat Wilmington Blue Rocks, 3-1, for second straight win

Jordan Edgerton broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh with a two-out, bases loaded RBI single and Zach Quintana tossed two scoreless frames in relief while earning the win as the Mudcats won their second straight game, 3-1, against the visiting Wilmington Blue Rocks at Five County Stadium on Wednesday night.

Edgerton’s two-out, two-run single in the seventh came with the bases loaded and against reliever Ashton Goudeau of the Blue Rocks (6-14). His hit never left the infield, but was hit deep enough behind second to allow him to beat a throw to first from shortstop Humberto Arteaga. Edgerton’s hit broke the seventh inning tie and turned out to be the game winner. The infield single also brought his RBI total to 15 for the season.

Goudeau (L, 1-2, 6.11) allowed Edgerton’s eventual game winning hit. In all, Goudeau allowed two runs and four hits over three innings pitched and took the loss. He originally came in for starter Josh Staumont who worked through the first five innings with only one run allowed on three hits. Staumont struck out nine, walked four and lost three wild pitches in his start.
