Louisville Bats shut out Durham Bulls in Sunday matinee
The Durham Bulls managed just one hit Sunday afternoon, as they fell to the Louisville Bats 3-1 at Louisville Slugger Field.
After 6 ½ scoreless innings, Louisville (13-9) finally broke the deadlock. In the bottom of the seventh, Bryson Smith singled to score Steve Selsky as the Bats took a 1-0 lead. After a fielder’s choice plated Kyle Waldrop, Jose Peraza knocked a sacrifice fly to left field, and Louisville pushed its lead to 3-0.
Durham (11-14) managed just one hit – a Pat Leonard single leading off the top of the sixth. Leonard also worked a walk on the day, as did Daniel Robertson, as they were the only Bulls to reach safely on the afternoon.
Cody Reed (2-0) picked up the win for the home side, tossing seven innings of one-hit ball, striking out five and walking one. Steve Delabar earned his second save of the campaign by registering the game’s final six outs without allowing a hit.
Austin Pruitt pitched well for Durham, tossing five scoreless frames and allowing just four hits. The right-hander exited the game after only 72 pitches, as the game was delayed for 50 minutes in the middle of the sixth inning because of rain. Eddie Gamboa (1-1) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
The Bulls’ road trip continues Monday when they open a three-game series against Indianapolis. Left-hander Adam Wilk (0-2, 3.22) takes the mound for Durham opposite lefty Steven Brault (1-1, 1.83) for Indy. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Victory Field.
