Durham Bulls’ bats silenced in loss to Buffalo

Three Buffalo pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts and allowed the Bulls just two hits as Durham fell 3-0 to the Bisons in the series opener on Monday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The Bulls’ (14-18) best scoring chance came when Luke Maile doubled in the eighth and got to third on a pick-off error, but the catcher was stranded there after a strikeout and a groundout.

Arnold Leon (1-0) earned the win for the Bisons (14-17), while Justin Marks (0-3) took the loss in his first start for Durham. Marks went five innings and allowed five hits, two earned runs, one walk and struck out two batters.

The Bulls’ other hit came when Kyle Roller singled in the fifth. Richie Shaffer reached on a walk in the at-bat before Roller, and Cameron Seitzer got on base on a wild pitch third strike in the sixth.
