NC has 2 of the country’s best vintage motels + a top RV park, says USA Today

USA TODAY readers voted three North Carolina spots among the best in North America in the categories for “Best Roadside Motel,” “Best Luxury RV Resort” and “Best Vintage Trailer Hotel.”

The annual 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards are determined by readers’ votes. Initial selections came from travel experts choosing the top 20 nominees in a number of categories, including best art museum, best farmers market, best outdoor water park and more.

As of July 13, many 10Best categories are still pending, and results will be announced over the next few weeks.

Brevard, NC wins for best vintage motel

Brevard: The Sunset Motel, located in Brevard, won a top-10 readers’ choice award for the best roadside motel in the United States.

“The Sunset Motel celebrates the allure of the open road by providing clean, comfortable rooms and friendly service to visiting guests,” USA TODAY 10Best wrote. “Amenities include free wifi and cable, plus chairs outside each door so guests can visit with their neighbors.”

The Sunset Motel won second place. The top spot went to The Local in St. Augustine, Florida.

Asheville’s Junebug wins best vintage trailer hotel

Asheville area: JuneBug Retro Resort, located in Weaverville (under 15 minutes from Asheville), won a top-10 readers’ choice award for the best vintage trailer hotel in the United States.

“June Bug is a collection of ten vintage campers on fifty acres of the Blue Ridge in western North Carolina that doubles as a vacation destination and unique event space,” USA TODAY 10Best said. “This resort is located in a remote valley with a half-mile stretch of riverfront, and the restored campers range from a 1950 Spartan tandem that sleeps four to a cozy 1963 Shasta Astrodome, all equipped with modern amenities. JuneBug Retro Resort came in at #10 on the list. The top spot went to Waypoint Ventura in California.

Lake Toxaway resort wins for best luxury RV destination

Lake Toxaway: Mountain Falls Luxury Motorcoach Resort, located at Lake Toxaway, won a top-10 readers’ choice award for the best RV resort in the United States.

“This RV resort in the mountains of Western North Carolina gives visitors easy access to Lake Toxaway and the surrounding waterfalls, lakes, streams and parklands,” USA TODAY 10Best wrote. “Onsite amenities include tennis and pickleball courts, bocce ball, a fitness room, two swimming pools and spa facilities.”

Mountain Falls Luxury Motorcoach Resort came in at #6 on the list. The top spot went to Motorcoach Country Club in Indio, California.
