Nursing Student Films Home Assessment, Not Prepared for Dog's Response

A nursing student's attempt to record a routine at‑home assessment took an unexpected-and heartwarming-turn after her dog refused to leave the room.

In a TikTok shared by Kristen Mac, who posts under the handle @kristenbasch, the student films an assessment video for nursing school when her dog, Enzo, inserts himself squarely into the action. The on‑screen text reads: "When you have to record an assessment video and your dog refuses to leave the room."

The video shows Kristen wearing a stethoscope and carrying out a head‑to‑toe assessment on a practice patient seated in front of her. As she places the stethoscope on various points of the man's body, Enzo remains close-at one point prompting the patient to stop and pat the dog on the head.

Kristen captioned the clip: "Very important member of the healthcare team #nursingstudent #nursingschool #dog." The video quickly resonated with viewers, prompting amused reactions and praise for both the student and her unexpected assistant.

In a follow‑up update shared in the comments, Kristen revealed that Enzo's cameo didn't hurt her grade: "Update: I got an A on the assignment and my professor said she loved the dog and he was acting great as an emotional support animal."

Later, Kristen formally introduced viewers to the breakout star of her assessment video. "Meet the good boy from my assessment video!!! Enzo is two and a half years old and he's a mix between a French bulldog and an Australian shepherd! He's the best guy around and I love him more than anything," she said.

The comment section filled with jokes likening Enzo to hospital staff-and moments of recognition from viewers who saw the clip as more than just a funny interruption.

"Actually it’s a great clue on how my student will handle a patient with a service dog," one user wrote.

Others leaned fully into medical humor.

"That's the hospital’s therapy dog," commented Kim Edwards.

"He's literally the supervising RN," added another user.

"That's literally the senior dogtor of course he can't leave the room?" joked RJ.

Some commenters shared similar experiences from their own training or work‑from‑home days.

"one time I used my dog in the beginning of a video as my ‘patient' and then cut to me practicing on an actual person. My professor got a kick outta that lol," Layla wrote.

Another viewer connected the moment to pandemic‑era working conditions.

"Reminds me of COVID when my mother was working from home and dog was sitting on the back of the couch he wanted to be on the calls lol even tho she didn't put screen on," commented Eim.

Several viewers also pointed out that the unscripted moment may have actually strengthened the assignment.

"You really did a double demonstration, because this could be used in training for somebody who has a service dog! You should get extra credit!" another user wrote.
