This Dog Is Officially Competing for Slowest Eater Alive

While most dogs inhale their dinner in a blurred frenzy of kibble and noise, one pup has gone viral for doing the exact opposite. She decided to make it a full-time job...and she is barely making any progress.

On one hand, the slow feeder is doing its job. But in this case, maybe it's working a little too well.

In a video posted to Reddit's r/WhatsWrongWithYourDog, she carefully works her way through a maze-like bowl, pulling out pieces of food one by one like it's a long-term project rather than a meal. She nuzzles the bowl to get her food, but it is not working out as she would like.

Why Slow Feeders Exist in the First Place

Most dogs don't eat like this. They inhale food. Fast eating can lead to real problems, from choking to vomiting. In larger breeds, it can even increase the risk of gastric dilatation volvulus, a serious condition where the stomach fills with gas and may twist.

Slow feeders are designed to interrupt that pattern. They force dogs to pause, think and work for each bite.

When Slow Becomes Very Slow

In this case, the bowl is winning.

Instead of slowing down slightly, this dog has turned her mealtime into a slow-motion puzzle. Every piece of kibble requires effort, and the process is almost hypnotic to watch.

It's funny, but it also shows something important: not every dog approaches food the same way.

One commenter said, "As someone who has two labs, bowls like this are a must. They will literally inhale their entire bowl of food otherwise."

And as the dog's parent explained, "I do not give her open bowls because when the switch is flicked, she will eat so fast she will vomit (always on the rug of course), I am unable to give her taller bowls or feeder locations because she will flip them over all over the floor and will still not eat them, similar to how she is acting now."

What Matters More Than Speed

The goal isn't speed. It's comfort and safety.

If a dog eats too fast, slowing them down can prevent digestive issues. If they're naturally slow, it's usually not a problem unless they're skipping meals or losing weight.

What matters is that they're relaxed and consistent. Watching this dog struggle a bit with her slow feeder is funny, but it's also a reminder that sometimes, slowing down is exactly what they need.
