Dog Has 5th Birthday, What Owner Does to Backyard Warms Hearts: ‘Sniffari'
A dog's fifth birthday celebration has gone viral on social media, not because she was treated to an extravagant party, but because her owner transformed the garden into a full sensory experience.
The video, shared by owner Kat (@ladyandthepamp_), has already racked up more than 436,000 views and over 31,000 likes since being posted on April 13.
Filmed in a back garden in England, the clip opens with a handmade sign reading “Welcome to Lady's Sniffari.” The camera then pans across a series of themed exhibits, each created to give Lady and her canine friends a chance to explore the world through scent.
The sensory stations include fresh chicken eggs, a small herb garden, old socks and shoes, a pile of sticks, and layers of cardboard with treats hidden between each piece.
Why Sniffing Matters for Dogs
The American Kennel Club says, when dogs stop to sniff on walks, they aren't stalling-they are gathering information. With more than 200 million scent receptors, sniffing is their primary way of interpreting the world, and studies suggest it can even boost their mood.
Trainers say that sniff‑focused walks are especially beneficial for anxious dogs. Many pets live highly structured lives, and rushed outings can add stress, while slower, scent‑led exploration can lower heart rate and release calming dopamine.
Owners are encouraged to watch for calm, steady sniffing paired with relaxed body language, which signals that the canine is benefiting from the activity.
Owners can also encourage sniffing at home with snuffle matts which are available on Amazon.
Do People Really Celebrate Their Dog's Birthday?
Lady's birthday celebrations didn't end with the backyard “sniffari.” Kat also shared additional clips showing that the pup was treated to a beachfront hotel stay in England, rounding out a birthday weekend filled with enrichment and pampering.
A survey suggests Lady is far from the only canine being spoiled on their special day. The survey, commissioned by The Pets Table and conducted online by Talker Research between July 5 and July 9, 2024, asked 2,000 dog owners how they like to celebrate their pets.
Two in five respondents said they buy presents for their dog's birthday, and some even host full birthday parties. Many owners also splurge on premium food and treats (62 percent), clothes (21 percent), and luxury grooming services (20 percent).
TikTok Reacts

Another commented: “What a magnificent spread for your doggo.”
A third added: “Children's birthday events: avoid at all costs. Dog birthday events: attend at all costs.”
