Late-Night University of Iowa Shooting: Social Media Users Share Footage from Scene

According to local CBS News, on April 19, around 1:51 am CT, the University of Iowa sent out a "Hawk Alert", warning its campus community of gunshots around the College and Clinton Street area, and advising them to stay clear. This alert was sent after it was reported that this neighborhood in Iowa City, Iowa, erupted into a chaotic scene, as what started as fights in the streets turned even uglier as gunshots were reported.

By 2:03 am, first responders arrived at the scene and later noted "multiple victims have been taken to area hospitals to be treated for wounds suffered in the shooting." Thankfully, at this time, it appears there were no casualties. Then, at 3:36 am, an updated public alert was issued stating:

"ICPD continues to investigate. Remain vigilant. Report any info or suspicious activity to law enforcement 3319-358-TIPS."

What Caused the Shooting at the University of Iowa?

At the time of publication, no information was released about the identity of the shooter or whether there was more than one. Along those lines, a definitive motive for the incident was also not confirmed by law enforcement. However, videos of the scene found on social media start to paint a picture.

As the story continues to develop, people who were at the scene have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to show video footage of what occurred. It appears that as the bars in the area were closing and patrons were taking to the streets, a series of fights broke out, and that led to a wild scene. One thing led to another, and that's when gunshots were reported in the area, and again, as seen in footage found on X, the crowd in the area dispersed and fled. Take a look at some of the videos below, and again, this is a developing story with more details of the incident surely to come.
