Himalayan Kitten Meets Groomed Dog and Instantly Rejects the New Version
This poor Himalayan kitten had it all figured out. She knew what to expect from life, until she was thrown a curveball she never saw coming. It all fell apart when the dog she knew and loved went to the groomers.
Because, apparently, if you remove a dog's smell and change their appearance, that's all it takes. She doesn't know what to do about this strange impostor standing in front of her, but she definitely knows that this can't possibly be the same pup she used to pal around with.
And, when logic fails, she knows to puff all the way up and deploy the hiss.

That poor pup is all confused as to why the cat is being so standoffish now. LOL.
One viewer left the perfect analogy in the comments: "It's like when babies see their dads without beards for the first time." Another viewer can absolutely relate: "I went through the same thing when my husband shaved his mustache and beard. I slept at the edge of the bed facing away from him. Total stranger danger." Others just thought the cat had an opinion: "Cats cannot hide if they don't like your new haircut."
Why It Completely Confuses Pets When a Friend Comes Back From the Groomer
Both dogs and cats rely heavily on scent to recognize each other. When another animal in the home goes to the groomer, they come home not just looking different, but smelling completely different. There are scents from the other animals they've just been around, but there are also weird shampoo and other human smells that can completely throw them off.

To an animal, that's enough to make them stop and question their identity completely. As these "new" smells fade and the scent becomes familiar again, the friendships usually bounce right back.
For now, Coco will probably be keeping a close eye on "the stranger." And the dog? The dog has no idea what the big deal is. Give the kitten a day or two, and she'll remember exactly who the pup is, and they'll both pick up as though nothing ever happened.
