Heavy Snow Warning for Colorado, Montana, Wyoming as 2 Feet of Snow, 45 mph Winds Emerge
Winter is sticking around despite the calendar telling everyone it's spring.
The National Weather Service issued a new winter weather advisory for three states expecting to see heavy snowfall over the weekend and into early next week.
"An upper-level energy moving onshore over California on Saturday will move to the Upper Midwest by Monday evening," the NWS said. "The system will produce rain with embedded thunderstorms over parts of Northern California and Nevada on Saturday and Sunday."
"The system will produce late-season light snowfall over the higher elevations of the Northern Rockies, the Northern Intermountain Region, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Great Basin, and the Central Rockies Saturday into Sunday."
3 States Bracing for Up to 2 Feet of Snow
The National Weather Service is calling for "heavy" snow to hit Colorado, Montana and Wyoming as a cold front moves through the Northern Rockies.
The Cheyenne, WY office of the NWS issued a heavy snow warning for the Sierra Madre Range and Snowy Range including the cities of Albany and Centennial as 12 inches of "heavy, wet" snow is expected to hit. Battle Pass, WY is expected to see the most snowfall with up to 24 inches possible.
Colorado will see similar snowfall with the Grand Junction office revealing warnings for Skyway, Crested Butte, Taylor Park, Marble, Monarch Pass, McClure Pass, Buford, Trappers Lake, Silverton, Molas Pass, Coal Bank Pass, Rico, and Hesperus as up to 12 inches of snow and 45 mph winds hit. Grand Mesa, CO is expected to see the most snowfall, like Battle Pass, reaching 24 inches of accumulation.
Montana will get a slight reprieve from the heavy snowfall in the state over the past few days with six more inches of accumulation through Sunday morning. The winter weather advisory for Montana is expected to end on Sunday at noon.
