Brooks & Dunn's 'Boot Scootin' Boogie' Crowned 'Best Country Line Dance Song of All Time'
Country music is great for dancing and getting your groove on, and that's why country line dancing is such a fun and popular pastime.
If you want to get your dance on, one country song has been named the best country line dance song of all time by music experts.
Billboard magazine has a feature published about the best songs for country line dancing ever created. In it, they name the Brooks & Dunn classic "Boot Scootin' Boogie" the No. 1 country line dance song of all time.
What Makes Brooks & Dunn's 'Boot Scootin' Boogie' a Great Country Line Dance Song
Though the song "is inextricably tied to the notion of country music line-dancing, the duo wasn't the first act to record the song," Billboard notes in the piece.
The outlet adds that Brooks & Dunn's Ronnie Dunn wrote "Boot Scootin' Boogie" before he got together with Kix Brooks, which makes for an interesting backstory. So, it's one of the duo's few songs that Dunn wrote himself.
"But Texas group Asleep at the Wheel first recorded the song as part of their 1990 album Keepin' Me Up Nights," the outlet states. "Two years later, the song became Brooks & Dunn's fourth No. 1 Hot Country Songs hit, with a music video featuring a line dance - which helped spark the 1990s country music line dance craze."
"Boot Scootin' Boogie" was at the top of the Hot Country Songs chart in 1992 for four weeks. It also made it to the all-genre Hot 100, peaking at No. 50.
Songfacts also adds that the song is "known for its signature line dance, which was very popular in country bars. The song is about a hard-working guy who likes to go to his favorite honky-tonk bar to unwind and dance, so the song was a natural fit."
Coming in at a close second is Billy Ray Cyrus with "Achy Breaky Heart," will the publication noting that "in the early 1990s, this rocking song sparked a line dancing craze and turned Billy Ray Cyrus into one of country music's hottest newcomers."
So, whether you're dancing to "Boot Scootin' Boogie" or "Achy Breaky Heart" or another country song, there's no doubt that these songs were made for moving.
Brooks & Dunn's "Boot Scootin' Boogie" is streaming now on all music platforms. Even though this song is decades old, it still plays fresh and gets people on the dance floor, which was likely the purpose of it all along.
