A Major Nintendo Franchise May Be Getting a Movie Soon

Nintendo may be one of the biggest video game companies in the world, but their current crossover into the realm of Hollywood movies seems to be pretty successful. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has grossed over $800 million. That's after The Super Mario Bros. Movie raked in $1.36 billion in 2023.

The Legend of Zelda movie is currently on pace to come out in May 2027. That film had been in rumored development for almost two decades before coming to fruition.

And now, perhaps the franchise that has been speculated as a potential movie for longer than any other Nintendo game is being pitched to Sony and Universal: Metroid. Famous leaker VScooper claims the two famous movie studios are fighting for the rights to Nintendo's sci-fi giant.

NINTENDO is currently pitching a METROID movie, Sony and Universal are in close race to win the rights.

It always felt that Samus's adventures would fit well on the big screen, or at least better than almost any other game made by Nintendo. The horroifying environments, interesting enemies, and dense backstory of Samus is ripe for a cinematic takeover.

Metroid has been reinvigorated in recent years with the release of Metroid Dread in 2021 and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond at the end of last year. Public interest is at an all-time high. When you combine Nintendo's current interest in the film industry and the increased fandom of the Metroid games, it's not shocking that this might finally be a tangible film instead of a fan fiction.

The biggest question becomes obvious: who will play Samus in the movie? The bounty hunter is 6' 3'', and nearly 200 pounds. It's not easy to find an actress with these physical attributes.

Brie Larson is the most famous person that has been associated with the movie for years now. She is long-time Metroid fan and dressed as Zero Suit Samus on Halloween in 2018.

Casting Larson is not a given, however. Fan castings and rumors rarely come true, especially when they've been perpetuated for as long as this one. It's much more likely Nintendo finds someone who is relatively unknown, just like they did with the casting of Link and Princess Zelda.

All we can do now is sit back and hope this leak turns into the truth.
