Rory McIlroy Will Play the Truist Championship After 3 Weeks Off

Earlier this month Rory McIlroy joined Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods as the only golfers to win the Masters in consecutive tournaments.

"I just can't believe I waited 17 years to get one green jacket, and I get two in a row," McIlroy said after capping off a one-shot victory over Scottie Scheffler.

"I think all of my perseverance at this golf tournament over the years has really started to pay off. It was a tough weekend. I did the bulk of my work on Thursday and Friday. But just so, so happy to hang in there and get the job done."

The reward for McIlroy's hard work was a significant break.

Rory McIlroy Finally Coming Back to PGA Tour With Signature Event

After earning his second green jacket, McIlroy opted to skip the RBC Heritage, one of the PGA Tour's signature events, the Zurich Classic, which he teamed up with Shane Lowry in each of the past two seasons and the Cadillac Championship scheduled for this weekend.

Following that three-week hiatus, though, McIlroy will return to the Truist Championship, the final signature event on the PGA Tour before the PGA Championship in mid-May.

"Welcome six-time major champion, @McIlroyRory, to the Truist Championship!" the official account for the tournament said on social media.

McIlroy is a four-time winner of the event, previously named the Wells Fargo Championship. His last victory in the tournament came in 2024 when he recorded a five-shot victory over Xander Schauffele.

He finished in a tie for seventh in 2025, finishing six shots behind winner Sepp Straka.

The Truist Championship comes just a week before the year's second major tournament, which is scheduled to tee off from Aronimink Golf Club, just outside of Philadelphia, PA.
