NFL Legend Lawrence Taylor's Health Diagnosis "Revealed" after Recent Hospitalization

On April 24, it was reported that Giants legend and NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor arrived at a New Jersey emergency room after he experienced a medical emergency. Per a TMZ story at the time, he was later transferred to a different section of the hospital, and those close to Taylor believed he would be discharged soon.

Fast forward to April 28, and TMZ is now reporting that Taylor is being treated for pancreatitis. Thankfully for Taylor, sources close to him are saying he's getting better. Specifically, Taylor's longtime friend Mark Lepsetler, who also happens to be Taylor's agent, shared, "Lawrence is getting better every day and is looking forward to getting back on his feet." But to be clear, Lepsetler did not comment on his client's diagnosis directly.

What Is Pancreatitis?

Plainly put, pancreatitis occurs when one's pancreas becomes inflamed. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it can be a temporary condition or a lifelong illness, usually caused by gallstones or alcohol use. However, it can also be caused by viral infections, hypercalcemia, hypertriglyceridemia, autoimmune disease, and inherited gene mutations.

In the United States, acute pancreatitis (the temporary condition) leads to roughly 275,000 hospital stays annually, whereas chronic pancreatitis isn't as common and leads to about 86,000 hospital stays per year. In terms of symptoms, they may include, but are not limited to, fever, nausea, vomiting, shallow breathing, unintended weight loss, indigestion, and a fast heart rate.

Again, going back to the TMZ story, it wasn't made clear what kind of pancreatitis Taylor has or the symptoms he exhibited that landed him in the hospital. As more information becomes available, we can pass along updates. But for now, we sincerely hope he gets better. The 67-year-old is once more an NFL legend, and he's meant a great deal to the sport for both players and fans.
