This 2003 'Star Wars' Video Game Ranked The Best One For Switch Consoles
It's Star Wars Day! That means it's the best time to celebrate everything we love about the weird and chaotic mess of characters and stories that have made George Lucas's space saga so memorable for almost 50 years.
Video games are a world that Star Wars has infiltrated heavily, going back decades, but which Star Wars video game is the best of them all? Our friends over at Nintendo Life compiled a list using fan scores on the website to determine the top title in the franchise that is playable on Nintendo hardware.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is ranked the top game in the galaxy. This 2003 RPG was originally not playable on Nintendo's consoles back in the early 2000s. It came out on the Xbox and Windows PC, but a 2021 port to the Switch means that Nintendo fans now get to enjoy this classic.
Nintendo Life explained the reason why the game is so beloved, even if some of the mechanics have aged over the 23 years since it was released.
"Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic may have lost some of its lustre as the years have gone on, but the foundations of a well-written and enjoyable RPG haven't aged a day. If you can get past things like awkward controls, middling presentation, and a complete lack of handholding, the 30-ish hour campaign still offers up an engaging romp through the beloved Star Wars universe."
The Knights of the Old Republic sub-franchise has continued to grow over the last two decades. The sequel, The Sith Lords, wasn't as acclaimed but is also playable on Switch and was ranked 14th on the list. There is supposed to be a spiritual successor called Fate of the Old Republic that has an unannounced release date. It was just confirmed in December 2025.
Knights of the Old Republic being playable on Switch and Switch 2 is again a great way for fans to experience more third-party games on Nintendo consoles that they wouldn't normally have gotten to. The Switch family of consoles has grown Nintendo's reach far beyond just Mario and Link's adventures.
