A Sweet Black Cat Was Returned to the Shelter After a Month and He's Heartbroken and Confused
Black Cats may surge in popularity around Halloween, but they get adopted at much lower rates. Sadly, the cutie in this cat video was brought home to a family, but then returned just a month later. Larry, the Black Cat, "doesn't know what he did wrong." What was Larry's crime? His temporary humans took him back to the shelter for being "too affectionate." We can't imagine!
@humanebroward He doesn't know what he did wrong? 5-year-old Larry is the ultimate love bug, but sadly this is exactly why he was returned to our shelter after being adopted last month Now, Larry watches from inside the cat room, waiting for attention and love Once we go inside, he's ready to make it very clear how much love he has to give. Larry wastes no time rubbing against you, crawling into your lap, and showering you with affectionate headbutts Larry is a loving, affectionate cat who adores attention and wants nothing more than to be close to his person He's good with adults, children and other cats! Larry is looking for a true cat-lover where his cuddly nature and loving personality will be cherished. If you're looking for a devoted companion who will greet you with love every day, Larry is ready to steal your heart If you can't adopt, please share To meet Larry at the Humane Society of Broward County, complete a pre-adoption application on our website (link in bio) and then stop by. The caption tells more of his story: "5-year-old Larry is the ultimate lovebug, but sadly, this is exactly why he was returned to our shelter after being adopted last month. Now, Larry watches from inside the cat room, waiting for attention and love." Luckily, there are some shelter volunteers willing to give him pets. His description goes on to say, "Larry wastes no time rubbing against you, crawling into your lap, and showering you with affectionate headbutts."
TikTok audiences jumped in to follow up on Larry's story, with numerous commenters expressing interest in adopting him. @Jujujudyboo said it best with, "A cat lover's dream is to have a Velcro kitty. The people [who] returned him didn't know how lucky they were and what they had…" Too true.
Unfortunately, Black Cats have more trouble finding forever homes. As commenter @enchantedmuva correctly explained, "Black Cats are calm, observant, and deeply bonded to their people once they feel safe. Many of them sit in shelters longer than others, not because they lack personality, but because they're unfairly judged by outdated beliefs. They deserve the same chance at warmth, comfort, and belonging."
So why don't people go for Black Cats (and dogs)? We have the detes.

Why Black Cats Are Often Overlooked in Shelters
It may come as a surprise, but some people still think Black Cats bring bad luck and are therefore more reluctant to take them home. More practically, others might not adopt Black Cats because they don't photograph as well or are harder to see in the shelter, which could be dimly lit. We think Larry is plenty Instagrammable and will thrive in the perfect forever home.
