130 jobs cut at Lexington warehouse as online retailer Vitacost shutting down NC location

Vitacost.com is closing its warehouse and fulfillment facility in Lexington.

The move will eliminate 130 jobs at the 130 Lexington Parkway location by July 1, according to a WARN notice filed with the N.C. Commerce Department.

Vitacost was acquired in January by iHerb Holdings, one of the world's largest online retailers specializing in health and wellness products, from The Kroger Co. Terms of that deal were not disclosed.

IHerb, based in Irvine, Calif., also sells natural products in the beauty, personal care and pet supplies sectors.

Kroger had owned Vitacost since paying $237.7 million for the online vitamin retailer in August 2014. At the time Kroger bought Vitacost, it had 408 full-time employees in Lexington.

IHerb acquired Vitacost to accelerate the company's market presence in the U.S.

The purchase added more than 40,000 health-conscious products, including vitamins, minerals and supplements.

Although iHerb cited "access to Vitacost's loyal and largely incremental U.S. customer base" as part of the rationale for buying Vitacost, the company also said it planned to consolidate operations as part of the integration.

The company has distribution and fulfillment centers in Moreno Valley, Calif.; Perris, Calif.; Hebron, Ky.; Easton, Pa.; Elgin, Ill.; and Irvine. It recently announced plans for a fulfillment center in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area.

IHerb reported in March that it had $2.9 billion in fiscal 2025 net sales, up 19% year-over-year.
