Meet the 2027 Lexus TZ: A New EV with V10 Soundtrack and 300-Mile Range
Toyota's latest new EV is here, again. Sort of. Effectively, the 2027 Lexus TZ is a Toyota Highlander EV with a Lexus badge. It's an old strategy for Toyota and Lexus, but one that works well. Here, the Lexus TZ looks to pull off the same trick. It'll have a nicer interior, more options, and a slightly different look to the Highlander EV on which it's based. Plus, it'll play a V10 soundtrack over the speakers.
The soundtrack comes courtesy of the Lexus LFA. About a decade and a half ago, Lexus was working on a supercar to rival the likes of Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Aston Martin. The brand's answer packed a naturally aspirated V10 that sounded unlike anything on the road or the race track at the time. It never sold particularly well, but in recent years has come to be appreciated almost exclusively for its soundtrack.
The TZ, though, is not an LFA. It's a six-seat SUV, coming in at a huge 200.8 inches in length, making it a good two inches longer than the Highlander on which it is based. The TZ will be offered exclusively with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. Two batteries are on offer, with capacities of 76.96 kWh and 95.82 kWh. Lexus says this should net up to 300 miles of range, with your choice in wheels altering range significantly. You'll be able to charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 35 minutes at up to 150 kW thanks to its included NACS-style port.
The TZ doesn't have a disclosed power output in the US yet, but a quick look at the international model's spec reveals US buyers can expect around 402 horsepower for top-spec models. That's a good 64 horses more than the equivalent Highlander, likely as a result of the TZ's bigger battery option. Inside, the cabin is dominated by a massive touchscreen and plush leather trimmings. The first two rows will offer ventilation and power adjustment (apparently a Lexus first), and the third should fit adults quite nicely by the looks of it. The TZ will go on sale at the end of this year, with pricing to come.
