This Popular Dog Treat Is Getting a Mini Upgrade Just in Time for Summer
Summer somehow turns every backyard into an event. The grill comes out, people stay outside longer, and suddenly even regular afternoons start feeling like little celebrations. Naturally, dog parents want their pups included in the fun, too. The problem is that many treats either feel too large for frequent rewarding or do not quite match the playful summer energy people are going for during cookout season.
That is part of why Blue Buffalo's newest launch feels surprisingly smart. The company just announced a mini version of its popular Blue Nudges treats, giving dog parents smaller bite-sized rewards inspired by familiar cookout flavors. The new Blue Nudges Minis are designed for everyday treating while still keeping the same meaty style fans already know from the original lineup.

Blue Buffalo's New Blue Nudges Minis Bring Backyard Cookout Energy to Treat Time
According to Blue Buffalo, the new Blue Nudges Minis are launching with flavors inspired by classic summer grilling staples, including Chicken Jerky, Steak Grillers and Chicken Pot Pie. The treats are made with U.S. beef or chicken and are slowly oven-roasted with no artificial flavors or preservatives.
The biggest difference is the size. Instead of larger treat pieces, the mini format makes them easier to use throughout the day for training rewards, quick little "good dog" moments, or just spoiling pups during outdoor hangouts.
Blue Buffalo also leaned heavily into the emotional side of pet parenting with this launch. In the company's announcement, brand manager Anna Thayer said pets are "members of the family in every way" and explained that the little "nudge" dogs give their humans during shared family moments inspired the smaller treats.

Honestly, that idea probably feels familiar to almost every dog parent. Summer gatherings somehow always include at least one dog quietly circling the grill area, hoping somebody "accidentally" drops chicken.
The launch also reflects a larger trend happening across the pet industry right now. Treats are increasingly being marketed less like occasional rewards and more as extensions of shared lifestyle moments. Whether it is soccer-themed snacks like the recent Beggin' campaign or dessert-inspired flavors like Bocce's Bakery Berry Froyo treats, brands are clearly leaning into emotional connections and seasonal experiences.
What helps this launch stand out is that it still feels practical underneath the marketing. Smaller treats genuinely are useful for pet parents who reward frequently throughout the day but do not want to overdo portion sizes. That becomes especially important during summer when dogs may already be getting extra snacks at parties, barbecues and outdoor events.
The cookout-inspired flavor angle also feels playful without crossing into novelty territory. Chicken jerky and steak-style treats already are flavors many dogs naturally gravitate toward, so the lineup feels approachable rather than gimmicky.
Blue Nudges Minis are available now online and in stores like Chewy, Petco and Amazon, arriving right as people begin stocking up on all the little things that make warm-weather weekends feel fun. And if your dog suddenly starts hovering suspiciously close to the grill this summer, these probably will not help discourage that behavior.
