First Photos Emerge From 'The Batman Part II' Set as Filming Begins

March marked four years since 2022's The Batman debuted. A week after its star, Robert Pattinson, celebrated his 40th birthday, filming officially began on The Batman Part II.

The sequel, a part of writer/director Matt Reeves'Batman Epic Crime Saga, was originally set to release in October 2025. Due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike and other unclear circumstances, the anticipated film has been delayed by a full year twice.

To this point, the official umbrella for Reeves' Batman universe includes the 2022 film and The Penguin, which released on HBO Max in 2024.

On Wednesday, first photos emerged from the U.K. set, where cameras started rolling with action sequences appearing to be rehearsed. Impossible to confuse with any other production, Gotham City police cars were spotted near the Queensway Tunnel in Liverpool.

Neither Reeves nor the cast were spotted, but second-unit director Robert Alonzo and Pattinson's stunt double, Rick English, were both present.

Second-unit teams began work capturing exterior shots. Additionally, English - who portrays Batman in his more dangerous moments - was believed to have been seen lying on top of a police car moving through the tunnel.

The stuntman was not in costume as the Dark Knight, as the suit did not make a visible appearance Wednesday. Either there is a narrative explanation for the lack of costume, or the crew was just rehearsing the sequence.

First images of the sequel's production logo were spotted on equipment, featuring a blue backdrop to the bat symbol.

Promotional images for the first film were almost entirely dominated by the color red. This color switch could represent the setting, as Reeves confirmed earlier this month that the film would take place in winter.

Keep your eyes on the sky, as more bat updates will most likely start coming in regularly as principal photography kicks off.

The Batman Part II lands in theaters Oct. 1, 2027.
