Kyle Busch's WWE History: Inside the NASCAR Legend's Wrestling Cameos

The tragic and sudden passing of two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch at the age of 41 has left the sports world looking back at the incredible, multi-faceted legacy of one of racing's most fierce competitors.

While Busch was obvuously best known for his NASCAR career, he was an avid WWE fan, whih led him to foray into the wrestling world.

From driving a custom SmackDown vs. Raw stock car straight into victory lane to staging an unforgettable, primetime championship heist, Kyle Busch left his mark on WWE.

The 2009 Raw Guest Host Era

Busch's formal introduction to WWE programming came during the height of the company's famous celebrity "Guest Host" era on Monday Night Raw in 2009.

Stepping into the flagship wrestling program alongside fellow NASCAR personality Joey Logano, Busch immediately won over the locker room and the live crowd by leaning directly into his natural, polarizing sports-villain persona. His genuine love for the business was instantly obvious to the production crew backstage, paving the way for a long-term cross-promotional partnership between NASCAR, NBC Sports, and WWE.

Later that same year, Busch famously blended his two athletic passions at Texas Motor Speedway. Driving the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry wrapped in a custom WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 video game paint scheme, Busch completely dominated the field to win the Nationwide Series O'Reilly Challenge.

To celebrate his fourth consecutive victory, Busch climbed out of his car and hoisted a replica WWE Championship belt over his head in victory lane.

The Nashville Championship Heist

Busch's absolute peak in sports entertainment occurred on December 2, 2019, during NASCAR's Champion's Week celebration in Nashville, Tennessee.

Attending a live WWE event in the Music City alongside his wife, Samantha, and his son, Brexton, Busch sat front row right next to fellow racing icon Michael Waltrip. During the show, then-WWE 24/7 Champion R-Truth scrambled over the ringside barricade to hide from a group of pursuing wrestlers, using Busch as a human shield.

In a classic pro-wrestling plot twist, Busch chose to play along, intentionally pointing the pursuing superstars in the wrong direction. Once the coast was clear, a relieved R-Truth let his guard down to thank the champion driver.

That's when Waltrip slowly unzipped his jacket to reveal he was wearing a hidden referee shirt. Before R-Truth could process the trap, Busch snuck up from behind, executed a flawless roll-up pin, and Waltrip fast-counted the 1-2-3.
