Netflix Appears to End Speculation on 'Drive to Survive' Season 9
Earlier this year, Formula 1: Drive to Survive fans received a new way to watch the series following a surprise collaboration between Netflix and Apple, which allowed the series to be streamed on both.
"Whether you're a casual viewer who fell in love with Formula 1 through Drive to Survive or a die-hard enthusiast tuning in to each race weekend throughout the year, the collaboration between Apple TV and Netflix provides more ways to engage with the sport," Netflix said at the time.
The move came after Apple TV became the exclusive broadcaster of Formula 1 in the United States for the 2026 season. As part of the collaboration, Netflix was able to stream the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix live to viewers in the U.S.
Season 9 of 'Drive to Survive' In the Works
While fans were able to watch the beloved series in a new way this season, some were wondering if there would be a ninth series of the show.
"We've got further confirmation: we've now found multiple people connected to the crew listing season 9 as 'current' on their online profiles, having been working on a new season since the beginning of the year," What's on Netflix reported today.
Formula 1 Happy With Viewership
Ian Holmes, Chief Media Rights and Broadcast Officer at Formula 1, admitted the series has exceeded everyone's expectations and the racing federation remains pleased with the viewership, even though it's declined steadily over the past few seasons.
"That's the brutal thing about this business. You soon find out if people don't want to watch it anymore," Holmes said regarding Netflix's notoriously strict viewership metrics. "But so far, you know, the numbers are holding up super well, really well, I mean, ridiculously well given the number of series."
Previous seasons have debuted during pre-season testing in February, giving fans something to look forward to nearly a year from now.
