Clive Davis, 94, Hospitalized for Upper Respiratory Infection: Latest Health Update

Clive Davis - the man who has shaped the sound of American music for more than six decades - is in the hospital, according to TMZ.

The 94-year-old music mogul was admitted to a New York City hospital Friday evening after developing an upper respiratory infection, his spokesperson confirmed. Out of an abundance of caution, doctors admitted him for treatment. He is expected to be released within 24 hours.

Clive Davis' Legendary Career Accomplisments

Clive Davis has quite the impressive roster: he discovered Whitney Houston, widely considered the greatest vocalist in pop music history. He worked with Aretha Franklin, the undisputed Queen of Soul. He launched Kelly Clarkson's career following her American Idol victory, and in the early 1990s, he co-founded Bad Boy Records with Sean Combs, helping launch one of hip-hop's most dominant labels.

Davis entered the music business in the early 1960s and became president of Columbia Records in 1967 at just 35 years old. He went on to found Arista Records in 1974, where he built one of the most impressive rosters in industry history.

His contributions to the art form were recognized in 2000 when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the non-performers category. The 200-seat theater at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles bears his name. His annual pre-Grammy gala, held each year on the eve of the ceremony, has become one of the most coveted invitations in the entertainment industry. In other words, he's kind of a big deal.

Clive Davis' Health History

Friday's hospitalization is not Davis's first health concern in recent years. In February 2021, he was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy - a condition that causes temporary facial paralysis - and was treated with antibiotics and steroids. His team said at the time that he was "in good spirits" and expected to recover within six to eight weeks.

At 94, Clive Davis remains one of the most active and respected figures in the music business.
