NBC Quietly Cancels Show After Just 2 Seasons
NBC continues to move forward with a significant content overhaul heading into the 2026-27 broadcasting calendar with the cancellation of another show.
Earlier this month news broke that the network canceled medical drama Brilliant Minds, and comedy show Stumble, which received a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes from fans.
Now another sophomore drama is the next to be shelved.
'The Hunting Party' Canceled After 2 Seasons
The Hunting Party, created by JJ Bailey, was the last 2025-26 broadcast series whose fate had not been determined, according to Deadline. NBC postponed the decision until after the upfronts as its executives took extra time to evaluate the show's performance on both linear and streaming.
The series received a slight ratings bump when it started streaming on Netflix and Peacock, but not enough to move the needle. According to Deadline, NBC considered both a third season on the broadcast network and a switch to a Peacock original, but "in the end, after some number-crunching, neither option panned out."
Jeff Bader, NBCUniversal's President of Program Planning Strategy, didn't exactly hide the likely future of the show with his comments to Deadline last month.
"We're looking for places where we can grow the network, and that is a time period where we think we can do better," he said. "Nothing negative about Hunting Party, but for our linear schedule, we absolutely need to try and do a little bit better there."
What Is 'The Hunting Party'?
The crime drama procedural starring Melissa Roxburgh centers on a team tasked with tracking down and capturing dangerous killers
"When a secret prison suffers a mysterious explosion that allows the nation's most violent serial killers to escape, a former profiler is thrust back into a thrilling game of cat and mouse," the synopsis from NBC reads. "Alongside a team of soldiers, spies and special agents, she has no choice but to track down and recapture these dangerous criminals… before they kill again."
The show received a brutal 18% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but was widely loved by the audience with 81% delivering a positive review of the show.
The show will be shopped with Netflix being a potential landing spot.
