Popular '90s Band Announces News on 20th Studio Album

Bands from the '90s have been around for decades, but plenty of the mainstays of the decade, from Pearl Jam to Soul Asylum, are still out there, making music and playing shows. That's a great thing for music fans who grew up during the decade and want to hear more from their favorite childhood rockers.

On Wednesday, June 3, alternative rock band Weezer announced details for their new album. The "Say It Ain't So" rockers are scheduled to unleash a new self-titled studio set on Aug. 21.

"Plated in what surface instruments call gold. It bears the name Weezer," the band stated on social media. "Its surface is marked by four symbols believed to represent its creators."

They added: "A limited number of signed vinyl editions have been set aside in the U.S. webstore for those who seek them."

Weezer Return With 20th Studio Album, Another Self-Titled Release

Weezer seems to have a thing for releasing self-titled albums. They've actually released six additional self-titled releases, and those are referred to as their album cover colors, including green, blue, red, white, teal and black. They're keeping up with that tradition, because the new album cover is gold.

According to a press release provided to Men's Journal, the album, produced by Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume, had the group going back to how they used to record albums back in the day, "in a rehearsal space, playing together, writing together, figuring out what they wanted to do next, and what the shape of that next project looked like."

The release also calls the set "a tightly-wound, ready-to-spring record," with Blume noting he wanted to make "the most violent Weezer album ever." Does that mean we should expect death metal on here? Likely not, but it may be a bit heavier than your usual Weezer release.

In addition to the new album, Weezer has also released a new single off the set, "We Might as Well Be Strangers," featuring Wednesday. The song is available now via digital outlets.
