Do Dogs Get Jealous Over Babies?

Yes, dogs can get jealous over babies, but it's a bit different from a child getting jealous of a new sibling.

First of all, dogs may just be perplexed if they have never interacted with or seen a human baby.

Babies have a new smell that pups don't know, and they don't really do much, unlike a child or adult, so that may be confusing to them.

Babies, at least at first, will also throw off the dog's routine. If they weren't brought into a house with children already, then this is a major life transition.

First of all, most likely their mom has been away for a few days, so they know something is up, and now she's carrying this weird thing around that makes odd noises.

The attention usually focused on them is displaced, so it's normal that they may exhibit attention-seeking behavior like barking or whining.

So, how do you deal with jealous behavior from a dog?

If your pooch is acting out like this Dachshund, inclusion is the first step.

Have your dog sit next to you when you feed the baby.

Make them part of the baby's goodnight routine.

Take the pup on walks with the baby.

If they associate this new human addition with positive things, they will be less jealous.

Redirecting their energy will help them regain emotional stability during this major transition period for dogs.
