Man Arrested After Allegedly Throwing 5 Kittens Out of Moving Car on Interstate
A 21-year-old man in Alabama has been arrested after he allegedly threw five kittens out of his moving car onto a busy highway.
On May 31st, the Homewood Police Department in Homewood, Alabama, announced that 21-year-old Thomas Ronald Liccione was arrested and charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals after the department's investigation of the incident.
Felony Animal Cruelty
The Homewood Police Department says that it received multiple 911 calls at approximately 1 p.m. on May 30 regarding "a person throwing kittens from a moving vehicle" while driving on I-65 near Lakeshore Drive.
"Homewood Police Officers quickly responded to the area and located the suspect vehicle described by witnesses on Lakeshore Drive," the police department wrote in a statement on May 31. "Officers stopped the vehicle and detained the driver. Homewood officers spoke to multiple witnesses who reported seeing the driver of the vehicle in question throw five kittens out of the window while he was driving on I-65."
Following an investigation into the incident, 21-year-old Thomas Ronald Liccione of Birmingham, Alabama was arrested for Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. He was transported to Jefferson County Jail and held in custody with a $15,000 bond.
Story Ends In Tragedy
Unfortunately, the story did not have a happy ending, as the police department confirmed that none of the five kittens survived the incident.
"Tragically, all five of the kittens were struck and killed on the interstate by other vehicles," the Homewood Police Department wrote in a statement.
The department went on to condemn animal abuse and cruelty and thank those who called in to report the incident.
"The Homewood Police Department takes animal abuse and cruelty calls very seriously," We would like to sincerely thank the witnesses and motorists who contacted Homewood 911 and provided information to Homewood Police Officers on scene," the statement concluded.
