Controversial WWE Decision Ranked 'No. 1 Wrestling Moment That Broke the Internet'
One of Vince McMahon's most stunning and polarizing booking decisions has been ranked the No. 1 wrestling moment to break the internet.
As the head of WWE for four decades, McMahon had to take countless risks as both a businessman and a booker. Like every successful figure in the entertainment business, McMahon had far more hits than misses.
For better or worse, McMahon almost always prioritized what he thought was best for business over what the fans wanted. Hindsight is always 20/20, but one of McMahon's gutsiest booking calls is still widely debated to this day.
WatchMojo published a list of the top 30 moments in wrestling that broke the internet. Taking the top spot? Brock Lesnar defeating The Undertaker to end his perfect WrestleMania record at WrestleMania 30 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Undertaker came into the marquee event with a perfect 21-0 record at WrestleMania. The streak started with a victory over Jimmy Snuka at WrestleMania 7 in 1991, and included wins over other legends like Ric Flair, Randy Orton, Triple H, Batista, Edge and Shawn Michaels.
Three years later, Roman Reigns took down The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33, handing him his second loss on the Grandest Stage of Them All. Undertaker retired with a 25-2 WrestleMania record.
Undertaker: Ending the Streak Was a Last-Minute Decision by Vince McMahon
In a 2020 interview on CBS Sports' "State of Combat" podcast, Undertaker revealed that he only found out about McMahon's final decision on the day of WrestleMania 30. Initially, the plan was for Undertaker to extend his perfect record to 22-0.
"We had gone back and forth depending on the day," Undertaker said. "It changed very often, but it had been that way (with Lesnar losing) for about a week, and I showed up thinking I was going over. I found out about 1 p.m. that I wasn't. It is what it is."
It's well-known among WWE fans that Undertaker was always a personal favorite of McMahon's. His selflessness and willingness to put younger talent first were certainly key reasons why.
