Growing old and retiring is a goal for many of us. Apparently, dogs feel the same way. The senior Chihuahua in this video has decided that her days must consist of lying peacefully in the grass, undisturbed. The bugs have other ideas. One minute, she's chillin' and minding her own business, then suddenly she jumps. "She got startled by a bug," the on-screen text explains. Not allowed!

Fans of Edda will recognize this very elderly beauty's habits. While she's made it far along in years, the little Hua hasn't lost her spunk. Edda still runs, digs, and rolls in who-knows-what.

TikTok viewers couldn't possibly love this girl more, commenting on her tininess and her sass. "Well, of course, she's 3 apples tall," @Vivian Casablancas summed it up perfectly. @msrishhh took a different approach with, "Please procure her a fainting couch, lest she find herself frightened again," with @Beth adding, "I swear I heard an 'OH good heavens!' when she laid back."

We loved that @Saint Arlo tried to relate, "I too was startled by a bug today, little buddy." Finally, @edna_rodriguez1985 had the best take, "Me at the slightest inconvenience." Us, too.

What Causes Dogs To Suddenly Jump or React Outdoors?

If you have a Chihuahua or other little dog, this scene should look pretty familiar. My Smokey, a Chihuahua/Terrier mix, practically leaps out of his fur when surprised. For a lot of dogs, the source of startle is noise. According to theAmerican Kennel Club, canines are A LOT more sensitive to sounds than we are. A low thump to us might feel like a bang to them.

In this case, Edda seems to have been startled by the feeling of an insect. Just like humans, pets react instinctively to the sensation of something on their skin. Certain critters may be more attracted to your beastie as well, like fleas and ticks.

Luckily, Edda recovered just fine from her bug encounter. While she had a split-second disturbance, she went back into retirement mode.
