Thrifter Repurposes Everyday Finds Into Unexpectedly Upgraded Pieces
Thrifting offers so many pros for savvy shoppers-incredibly low prices, the chance to score high-quality finds for a bargain, sustainability and the natural character everything is full of-it's no wonder it's as popular as ever. It's a great alternative to buying something new from the store, especially if you have a knack for DIY.
From the start, thrifting requires imagination. You might picture how something looks in a room at home or styled differently. For creative DIYers, that goes even further as they envision how a piece could look transformed-oftentimes, in surprising ways.
Recently, one thrifter with over 200,000 followers on Instagram, @yours.truly_home, aka Amy, shared two ideas of exactly that, showing how she used thrifted pieces "the wrong way." And even though it's not technically how they're supposed to be used, people were blown away by the fresh, incredible results.
Thrifter Turns Utensil Trays Into Sleek Trinket Shelf
First, Amy explains that she originally was on the hunt for a trinket tray. But thrifting is always hit-or-miss, so when she couldn't find one, she got creative-thrifting two utensil trays and turning them into a trinket shelf instead.
All it took was gluing two basic wood utensil trays together, adding a roof and painting it a deep green shade to become a new and improved, eye-catching way to display trinkets. It looks so elevated and completely unrecognizable.

Thrifter Transforms Vintage Spoon Rack Into Flower Display
Another common and affordable thrift store item is a spoon rack. Amy's already has a vintage, storied look that adds interest to a room. Instead of using it to hold spoons, though, she places gorgeous flowers into the slots on the side of a kitchen cabinet. It brings the dreamiest feel to the space, and makes a simple but noticeable difference.
On paper, both are technically the "wrong way" to use the items, but that's also why Amy says they feel "so right." It gives them a refreshing twist with a creative, upgraded vibe that Instagram users love. "That's so genius," one commented, and others called it amazing, creative and brilliant.
Next time you're looking to add something new to your home, it's a reminder that heading to the store and splurging isn't your only option. A more affordable answer, with results you might love just as much, could be waiting at the thrift store, just waiting for a creative DIY makeover.
