Gypsy Rose Blanchard Recalls Boyfriend's Chilling Message Before Killing Her Mom
Gypsy Rose Blanchard spent more than eight years in prison after conspiring with her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to kill her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, after what is believed to be years of abuse. Since her release from prison, she has been open about sharing her story, and that continued during a recent podcast appearance.
Blanchard recently spoke to Paul C. Brunson on his podcast, We Need to Talk, where she shared some chilling details that she remembers from the night Godejohn fatally stabbed Dee Dee in 2015.
Blanchard Conspired to Kill Her Mother
In 2016, Gypsy Rose Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to ten years in prison for her role in the death of her mother, Dee Dee. Gypsy conspired with her then-boyfriend, Godejohn, to kill her mother in her sleep.
The incident came after what is believed to have been years of abuse from Dee Dee. This is believed to have been a case of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, which is a rare form of child abuse in which a caretaker fabricates, exaggerates, or induces a child's symptoms to gain sympathy and financial support for themselves. In Gypsy's case, this included the forced use of a wheelchair and unnecessary medical procedures for years.
The abuse ultimately pushed Gypsy to a breaking point as she conspired with her online boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to murder Dee Dee. On the night of the murder, Gypsy hid in a bathroom while Godejohn carried out the murder. The two were eventually arrested, charged, and convicted.
Gypsy Shares Chilling Details
During her recent appearance on We Need to Talk, Gypsy was asked about the night that Godejohn fatally stabbed Dee Dee in 2015, and she shared some chilling details of the incident.
Gypsy said that once her mother fell asleep on the night of the murder, she alerted Godejohn. When he entered the home, she gave him a knife, and he told her to go into the bathroom while he stabbed her to death in the bedroom.
"I heard screaming," Gypsy said on the podcast. "It was a horrible sound. It was screaming. It was shock. I almost think I heard 'Who are you?' was asked."
According to Gypsy, Godejohn gave a chilling response.
"And he responded, 'I am death,'" Gypsy recalled.
"I remember her calling out for my name, and I wanted to go and help her," Gypsy said. "Like, I felt like I wanted to go and help her, but I was terrified at the same time. Like my body was paralyzed. I couldn't move."
Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to ten years in prison, while Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. In December 2023, Gypsy was released after serving roughly 85 percent of her sentence.
