This Maine Coon Cat's Paw Next to Her Mom's Hand Is the Size Check Nobody Was Ready For
As the largest domestic cat breed, Maine Coon cats have a reputation just as massive as they are. They turn heads with their long bodies and pointed features wherever they go, but how big do Maine Coons actually get?
One cat mom gave her viewers a glimpse into life with a giant cat by comparing @mayothemainecoon's paw to her own hand. The June 7 video left feline fans in awe of Mayo's incredible size, but some eagle-eyed viewers also noticed a few other features besides her breed and size that make Mayo especially rare.
Take a look for yourself-and see if you can spot them:

That's a huge cat paw! It's easy to see why everyone does a double take when Maine Coons like Mayo walk by. Other cat breeds would look tiny next to her!
Some viewers like @boyd_605 compared the cat's paw to a "baby tiger paw," but @kayari.onit left everyone laughing when she wrote, "That's not a mainecoon that's a mainecow." I can see the hoof-like resemblance! In fact, Mayo's paw is even wider than most Maine Coons', and if you look closely, you can probably see why.
Mayo is a polydactyl cat! While most cats typically have five toes on their front paws and four on their back paws, Mayo has extra toes on all of her paws. Each of her front paws has two extra toes, giving her a total of seven toes on each front paw!
That's not the only special thing about her; Mayo is also rare because she's an orange female cat. Because the mutation for orange color is located on the X chromosome, males are significantly more likely to express this trait. Males make up 80% of orange cats, but some females inherit the orange gene from both parents, making them orange as well.
Just How Big Do Maine Coons Get?
Maine Coons are built to survive harsh winters in the wild of (you guessed it) Maine, which makes their size more than a tool to impress humans. Their long body and tall height give them an advantage when hunting, and their thick, water-resistant coat keeps them warm and dry in any weather. But how big, exactly, do Maine Coons get?
When fully grown, Maine Coon cats can weigh up to 25 pounds and measure around 16 inches from the tips of their shoulders to the ground. They can also grow to over 40 inches long from head to tail! A Maine Coon named Mymains Stewart Gilligan holds the Guinness World Record for the longest cat ever recorded at an impressive 48.5 inches.
Mayo doesn't need to break any records to be one impressive cat. She's incredibly unique with her rare coat and extra toes, but the way she loves her mom and dad is the best thing about her. Viewers can see more of her on her TikTok account, @mayothemainecoon, where she's always larger than life.
