Backstage Update: First-Time Blockbuster WWE Match Internally Pitched for SummerSlam 2026
WWE has reportedly discussed running a dream match for the first time at the upcoming SummerSlam 2026 pay-per-view.
After the Night of Champions 2026 pay-per-view on June 27, WWE will start building up toward SummerSlam. This year's event will be held on the Aug. 1-2 weekend at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Two matches for SummerSlam will be announced soon after Night of Champions, as the finals for the King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring tournaments will be held during the latter event. The two winners will get title matches at SummerSlam.
According to a report from WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, a dream match between Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill has been pitched internally for SummerSlam. The report noted that Flair vs. Cargill was even "penciled in" for the premium live event.
Despite their statuses as two of WWE's top main event stars, Cargill and Flair have never faced off in a singles match. Perhaps WWE fans are now less than two months away from finally seeing it.
Jade Cargill and Charlotte Flair Began Feuding at Clash in Italy
WWE hinted at a future match between Cargill and Flair at Clash in Italy on May 31, when the former challenged Rhea Ripley for the WWE Women's Championship.
B-Fab and Michin, Cargill's allies, interfered during the match in hopes of giving her the upper hand. However, Flair unexpectedly arrived to attack B-Fab and Michin, eventually helping Ripley retain the championship.
After Clash in Italy, Cargill attacked Flair during a backstage segment. Now, we wait and see if WWE actually runs the dream match at SummerSlam.
