Is Facebook down right now? Yes, for some users in the U.S. and elsewhere, there was a spike in Facebook problems and outages on June 12, 2026.
Users were also reporting widespread Instagram outages, with some getting only a blank page (Meta owns both Facebook and Instagram). It's not yet clear what's causing the problems. Nord VPN, which tracks Facebook outages, reported, "Facebook is down." The site noted, "Facebook is experiencing issues. A significant number of users report issues with the website, apps, and other services." There were "extreme disruptions" in Facebook's Ad Manager. Many people check Down Detector for outage reports. However, it was also periodically down on June 12.
"User reports show problems with Facebook," Down Detector reported, when its page went back up. People were reporting issues with the app, logging in, and the website, but the issues were starting to taper off.
A Top Meta Official Wrote That the Company Was Aware of the Problems
Andy Stone, Meta's communications vice president, confirmed the outages on X, writing, "We're aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services. We're working on it."
People had varying reactions to that post, which did not provide the cause for the issues. Some people demanded to know when Facebook (and Instagram) would be back up (Stone didn't give a timeline.) But one user wrote, "Don't fix it at all. It would be the greatest blessing to humanity if social media disappeared from the world."
Wrote another person, "Just so you are aware most users have had their followers count on @instagram reset to Zero... Nice job." The issues were not only affected users in the United States. "It's 8:52 AM in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and I currently cannot use 95% of the features on Facebook or Instagram," a Canadian user wrote on X.

People rushed to X to post memes about Facebook being down. "Me rushing to Twitter to see if Facebook is down…" wrote one person. "Facebook is currently down. We've all been logged out," wrote another user.

The New York Post reported that Facebook was hit with a "widespread outage."
"Couldn't log in for a bit. Now I'm logged in but can't like, comment, or post..getting 'query error' messages," a user wrote. Other users responded to Stone by asserting different issues, with multiple people claiming AI had wrongly disabled their Instagram accounts.
People also weighed in on the Facebook outage on the Down Detector website. "Still down on the eastern seaboard of the USA," wrote one person. "Where is my EVERYTHING content on my profile, FB?!" wrote another.
"Now the messenger not working," wrote another person. "I can't access my profile, and I get an error 'Unable to load' or something similar. I've tried both on mobile and PC, and I've also tried using the browser on my phone and computer. I still get the same error message," lamented another user.
"FB is really having problems here in Cambodia," a person wrote.
