Prime Video Quietly Adds Gerard Butler Action Movie "Certified Fresh" by Critics

With the summer here, there are plenty of people looking to flock outside to enjoy the nice weather, but if you're looking for a way to beat the heat, Prime Video just added one to its streaming library. The 2023 action thriller sees Gerard Butler attempt to play hero (without superpowers) in the middle of a war-torn island with the unlikeliest of allies. An ally portrayed by Luke Cage's very own Mike Colter. So what's the movie you should consider putting on your must-watch list?

Gerard Butler's ‘Plane' Is Now Streaming on Prime Video

On January 13, 2023, Plane debuted in theaters, grossing nearly $75 million at the box office worldwide. It followed the story of Butler's Brodie Torrance, a pilot who manages to save a plane full of passengers from a deadly crash, only to see them all in grave danger thanks to the hostile surroundings of their new environment. Here is an official synopsis of the film:

"In the white-knuckle action movie Plane, pilot Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler) saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island - only to find that surviving the landing was just the beginning. When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. In order to rescue the passengers, Torrance will need Gaspare's help, and will learn there's more to Gaspare than meets the eye."

‘Plane' Is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes

Both critics and the audience at large appear to love Plane. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a critics' Tomatometer score of 79%, and it has an impressive 94% Popcornmeter score. Rex Reed of the Observercalled the movie "a first-rate action thriller." While Adam Graham of The Detroit News noted, "Sections of the movie recall Die Hard 2 in the best way possible, as Plane delivers thrills and excitement that belie its generic title."

A Die Hard comparison is quite the compliment. You can check the movie out for yourself over on Prime Video right now. You'll need a subscription to the streamer to watch.
