Dog Parent Tests Whether Dachshund Loves Mom or Breakfast More, and the Result Is Too Funny

Family is everything, but you actually and factually need food to live, so of course this adorable mini dachshund was torn when her mom put down her breakfast bowl and immediately got herself kidnapped.

It's not the premise of a new action-movie blockbuster coming to a theater near you. It's just a prank Mom and her friend pulled on Indy the Mini Dachshund while creating content for YouTube, and honestly? Indy handled it very well.

"I Mean She Did Try and Help"

"Seeing if Indy loves me more than her breakfast," the video caption says as we watch Indy's mom lovingly tending to the adorable dog's breakfast bowl.

Suddenly, a man appears from behind Indy's mom, grabbing and dragging her away. It's Indy's mom's friend, of course, with his face and hands covered to imitate a criminal, but poor Indy doesn't know that right away!

The superdog makes a quick decision to try and save mom, but once she gets her wits about her enough to realize this is a prank and not really a threat, Indy decides there's been enough goofin' around for one morning and heads on over to her breakfast.

"I mean she did try and help," one commenter says.

"She said 'hey! You stop touching her! Well this ain't gonna work, let me eat!'" another jokes.

"If that's somebody, you know, she just recognized the smell," one smart commenter noted.

How Many People Can a Dog Remember?

Indy wasn't too scared once she got a good sniff of her mom's kidnapper, and that's because dogs have an incredible, near-limitless memory for humans and their associated scents.

Dogs actually use everything from facial and vocal recognition to associative memory to categorize all the humans they meet throughout their lifetimes. If a dog has a positive interaction with you, they'll remember you fondly forever. If a dog has a bad interaction with someone? Let's just say that person is staying in the doghouse.

That being said, there's no way Indy didn't recognize this masked stranger, and it's likely Indy has had nothing but great interactions with this man before this took place. Since Indy's mom started laughing as soon as she moved toward the breakfast bowl, we're pretty certain this will still go down in her memory as a silly joke and nothing more-even if it was a bit rude to pull a prank before she's even had her breakfast!
