This Iconic '90s Child Star Hasn't Appeared On-Screen Since 2015-The Reason Will Surprise You

Tim Allen recently talked about how a Home Improvement reboot couldn't happen because there have been some hangups with getting the child stars of the show to return for it. The biggest kid from the series was undeniably Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

Thomas played the middle child, Randy, on the iconic ABC sitcom from the 1990s, but he doesn't have a single on-screen credit since he appeared on another one of Allen's series, Last Man Standing, in 2015. Thomas has only had one other credit in the last two decades (The Lion King Read-Along in 2011).

What happened to Thomas? Why doesn't he act anymore? While some child stars have trouble with the law, like Thomas's Home Improvement co-star Zachery Ty Bryan, Thomas has a much quieter reason for his disappearance from the public eye.

He simply decided he was burnt out from the acting industry and wanted to expand his interests and potential career options. His original reasoning for leaving Home Improvement in the late 1990s was that he wanted to pursue schooling and get a degree.

This dream of graduating came true in 2010 when he finished his studies at Columbia University School of General Studies. He previously went to Harvard and St. Andrews in Scotland.

Thomas has given several interviews throughout the years, talking about his motivation to step away from the public eye and how he has found fulfillment in living a life of variety. Several of these snippets have been captured by E! News.

"You can't be trapped in this bubble called the acting industry. The industry is neurotic and weird, and so when I go home and I play basketball with my friends, I'm not Jonathan Taylor Thomas. I'm just Jonathan. I don't like hanging out with other actors and actresses."

"I never took the fame too seriously," he elaborated. "It was a great period in my life, but it doesn't define me. When I think back on the time, I look at it with a wink. I focus on the good moments I had, not that I was on a lot of magazine covers."
