Peacock Quietly Canceled One of Its Most-Watched Shows
Just two months ago, Peacock opted to cancel one of its most-watched shows of the year in a stunning decision.
The Copenhagen Test featuring Marvel star Simu Liu emerged to postive reviews from critics and audiences alike, who gave the show a 71% and a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes respectively. The first week of the show racked up 373 million minutes viewed for the week of Dec. 29-Jan. 4, enough to earn it the number 10 spot on the Nielsen top 10 streaming originals chart.
It was the third most-watched show of the week, behind only Netflix's Stranger Things and Taylor Sheridan's new showLandman.
What Is 'The Copenhagen Test'?
The logline for the show states that it followed "first-generation Chinese-American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale (Liu) who realizes his brain has been hacked, giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears. Caught between his shadowy agency and the unknown hackers, he must maintain a performance 24/7 to flush out who's responsible and prove where his allegiance lies."
Liu took to social media after the cancellation to issue a message for fans.
"Thanks to everyone who watched The Copenhagen Test! sadly alexander and michelle's journey ends here," he said in a statement on social media. "Endlessly proud of our cast & crew for pouring their heart and souls into this show. Looking forward to carrying my producing experience into the next opportunity!"
He also delivered a message to co-star Melissa Barrera.
"She makes every set better with her generosity, professionalism and beauty. mel you deserve the world, may it one day deserve you," he said.
The series finale wraps up the first season of the show and gives a fitting conclusion, but leaves the door slightly ajar for a second season. Unfortunately for fans of the show – and Liu – there won't be a second season.
